The Shire of Ashburton is embarking on an ambitious redevelopment project on a 1km stretch of Second Avenue in Onslow. This initiative is a key part of the Onslow Town Centre Revitalisation Plan which involves several significant upgrades. Three 4-way intersections will be converted into roundabouts and a T-junction will also be transformed into a roundabout. Additionally, a new roundabout will be installed, accompanied by a realignment of a road section. These changes aim to enhance traffic flow and safety.
To further improve the area, median facilities will be added and off-street parking will be provided. On-street parking will be designed to narrow the lanes, which will help manage vehicle speeds. Pedestrian facilities will also see substantial upgrades, with new installations completing the network along the entire section. Landscaping and placemaking efforts will include seating and covered areas, making the space more inviting and usable for pedestrians. The design is complete, the project is awarded and will commence in May 2025.
