WALGA and Main Roads WA are inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Local Government Elected Members and officers for the 2025 Local Government Road Safety Vanguards program.
The Local Government Road Safety Vanguards is a free program, designed for Local Governments, to provide the tools to improve road safety. Run over three days, participants will learn about modern road safety practices and influencing decision making to reduce and prevent road deaths and serious injuries.
Preparations for the 2025 workshops have begun, and WALGA and Main Roads WA are inviting EOIs from Local Government Elected Members and officers who are interested in participating in the 2025 Vanguards program:
Your EOI will enable us to better plan and tailor the program.
To express your interest in the 2025 Vanguards Program, please email your name, position and Local Government to RoadWise at roadwise@walga.asn.au by Friday, 14 February. RoadWise Councils can also contact their Road Safety Advisor for further information or to provide their EOI.
What others have to say about the Vanguards program.
"The Local Government Road Safety Vanguards course exceeded my expectations by providing a comprehensive understanding of all the critical elements within the road safety system. Not only did it cover essential best practices aimed at improving the safety of all road users, including the most vulnerable, but it also offered practical insights for implementing these practices effectively. One of the standout features of the course was its ability to bring together professionals from diverse professional backgrounds. The shared knowledge and experiences of these experts, especially in executing road safety projects, added immense value to the learning experience. I highly recommend this course to anyone involved in road safety initiatives, as it provides both theoretical knowledge and real-world applications to create safer road networks for everyone."

“I would like to recommend the Road Safety Vanguards training/seminar for Elected Members of Local Governments throughout Western Australia. The presentations from a variety of speakers from WALGA, Main Roads WA, Department of Transports, University of WA and members from the University of South Australia were certainly helpful as to road design, infrastructure and best practice for road safety around Australia was extremely enlightening. This not to mention Town Teams contribution to role plays was certainly well received. Having been a police officer in WA for 46 years and involved in various road safety initiatives along the way, I have found this particular training/seminar extremely valuable with my current role as an Elected Member for the Town of Mosman Park. I would highly recommend and encourage this particular Vanguard's training to be made available again to ALL Elected Members of Local Governments throughout Western Australia especially at this crucial time with the current road toll on everyone's mind as Local Governments also have an important role to play. I would attend it again if it was available again.”
Councillor Russell Armstrong, Town of Mosman Park
